DO EVERYTHING EXACTLY ACCORDING TO WHAT
DR. MILLER SAYS IN CLASS!
Dr. Miller, the Brigham Young University-Hawaii Research Methods Professor, will usually recommend searching for articles from the Brigham Young University-Hawaii Psychology Article Data Base.
Remember:
- If it isn't double-spaced it is WRONG!
- Your font should be "Times New Roman" size 12.
- There is usually a space after every "," "." ":" ";"
- Your pagelayout is 1" from Left and Right, 1" from Bottom, Page # is 0.5" from Top-Right, Running head is 1" from Top-Left, the Title starts in the Center of the entire page.
- The period always goes after the end parenthasis:
Example:
(blah blah blah).
- The quotation marks come after the comma or period unless you are citing a source:
Example:
blah blah blah said, "blah blah blah" (author[s] of source, year, [page number if direct quote]).
- It is not "Works Cited," nor is it a "Bibliography," it should be labeled "References."
- Notice when underlining words, the line stops before the ":" "," "."
- Don't push the space bar twice after each sentence (only press once)!
- For the title page, students often wonder if there is a (-) between University and Hawaii; the answer is YES!
Example:
Brigham Young University-Hawaii
- If the article you are citing has three or more authors, you must write "et al." after the first time you mention the authors:
Example:
First Time: (Smith, Robinson, & Miller, 2007).
After First Time: (Smith et al., 2007).
