1. When linking to an article record in a database, it might be tempting just to grab the url from the browser's url window. Don't!* That link is usually date and time stamped, and won't work tomorrow.
Most databases accessible through the Simth Library provide what are called persistent links within record results. Of course, they are labeled differently by different vendors, and some can be challenging to find:
Stable URL - JSTOR
Permalink - EbscoHost Databses
Document URL or Share - Gale & ProQuest
DOI
2. You will have to add the Library prepend below to the front of any article link you want to link to in Canvas. This will allow students to access the article from both on- and off-campus. Be sure there are no spaces between this URL and the one for the article.
https://byuh.idm.oclc.org/login?url=+Stable URL (with no space) Example: https://byuh.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://www.jstor.org/stable/27761394 |
3. You cannot create article links from off-campus; they won’t work.
